With a troubled marriage between a couple, their right-to-life decisions may not be free of ulterior motive. In the case of Cliff Addison (Martin Donovan), he has some recurring issues with his wife Abbey Addison (Julia Anderson), but these come to a head when they are both in a car accident. The result is that he walks away unscathed, but Abbey has become a horror of burns and not likely to survive. Cliff gives the order not to resuscitate her, but she already has moments of nearly dying. At that time Cliff discovers he suffers a series of visits by an ugly spirit, who is Abbey as Thing (Xantha Radley). The spirit leaves first-degree burns on whomever she touches, and Cliff is afraid.
