A new strain of virus hits the United States and transforms men into homicidal misogynists, attacking and murdering women randomly. The problem may be familiar for a scientist named Alan (Jason Priestley) who has witnessed an insect called the screwfly from a trip to South America. He begins to recognize a virus that was infecting people on another continent by turning them into insane killers. His colleague Barney (Elliott Gould) who also was in South America seeks to find a solution that will save women from a terrible fate. Alan, in particular, wants to make sure his own wife Anne (Kerry Norton) remains safe and sends her into hiding, warning her not to trust any man, even himself.
